I can’t begin to tell you how wonderfully beautiful I think Elma is. Ever met someone who makes you feel special from head to pinky toe? If I were to describe Elma in three words…Light, Love, Cool. I honestly think the world should be filled with people like Elma who genuinely stretch their hearts out to include people with no expectations.
Elma is in the beauty industry and I thought it would be fun to have a Q&A with her about beauty and make up. I hope this inspires anyone who wants to branch out in the beauty world.
1. Where do you get your inspiration from?
A few places: Nature/ weather (right now color is so important with spring being here & summer on its way, I’m inspired by color), People- I love discussions; I love to people watch I gain a lot of ideas from that. And clients inspire me too. Anyone who comes to me with an idea, challenges me as well as inspire. Not to ever forget my mother, my biggest inspiration.
2. Who inspired you to become a MUA?
I don’t think I even think of myself as a MUA. It’s bigger than that to me. I’ve always enjoyed helping others feel good about themselves- especially women. We are a complex being & I honor that. Makeup was a gateway for me to reach others & encourage them.
3. How did you get to start in the industry?
I eventually got tired of living in fear & feeling inadequate. Decided I would take time to understand the things that I am good at( because we are all created with a little something) and that I would pursue them with passion and courage.
4. What do you love most about make up?
Ooh many things. From the packaging, to the quality, to how it appears differently on different tones. I mean it’s just a painters magic tool.
5. What did you want to be as an adult when you were a kid?
It varied for me. I wanted to be a nun because I thought nuns would always live with their moms. To wanting to be a teacher. Then I wanted to model until I realized my height simply wouldn’t cut it.
6. How would you describe your signature look?
Natural enhancement. I don’t like to make anyone look anything other than themselves, the enhanced version.
7. What does empowerment mean to you?
Empowerment to me means uniting each other to do great things. It means progress, it means success, it means we are all doing what we are supposed to do.
8. What is the most important beauty advice you can give to women?
To take time in this life to know who she was created to be. It’s liberating, it’s essential to a woman’s growth, and to never be afraid to learn from other women- we ARE a driving force TOGETHER.
9. Describe yourself in 5 words
Giggly, small but mighty, sensitive, fun, strangely cool
10. What advice do you have for people who are scared to chase after their dreams?
Fear is such a lie! “Ask yourself WHO are you NOT to BE?!”
Do you see why am obsessed with this girl? She’s phenomenal!
