Today’s post lacks direction but you know what? Sometimes our own lives are like that, without direction but things have a way of coming together when we don’t force the rhythm.
Lately, I am grossly obsessed with Korean series hence the bags under my eyes. I have been sleeping late trying to find out if the vivacious Geum Jan Di is saved by Gu Jun Pyo (Boys over flowers) from the violence of the school bullies. I don’t know why I am enraptured by these series but I can’t have enough of them. I have gone through 5 different series, I am not about to stop but I desperately need help to stop. That’s my current struggle. What are you trying to stop watching but can’t resist?
Formation – Work developments
Who is afraid of the Bey-stans? I am. I will leave this here. My relationship with Bey is complicated and unstable but this one thing remains true. She is inspiring. I hope you’re forming something for yourself, this can be you “killing” it at work, powering through with your business, basically anything you’re passionate about that has the potential to not only feed you, but also adds to your chosen community.
Eve & Nico has joined the shoptiques family, and I am truly excited for the opportunity this platform will create for the business and all the people we work with who make these collections for us. We had a successful interview that qualified our shop and it brings me joy that someone out there understands the time, heart, soul, tears and hard work that small businesses put into their boutiques.
The African Woman I see
I have a list of women I go to when I need some inspiration. Lupita is on that list, and perhaps next time I will share my list here with you. My family and I watched Lupita in Eclipsed play on Broadway, and while we stood in the freezing cold waiting to meet her, I thought to self, ‘this is a recipe for phenemonia’, and although her acting is phenomenal and I like her a lot, she is not worth my health. Generally we are lovers of things and no one had forced us to wait for Lupita in the cold. In spite of the cold, I was grateful to have gone home that night with some food for thought.
- I must forsake comfort to get the life I dream of.
- I must work hard to make it possible for others.
- I must stand in the cold if it has the potential to change things for me and for others.
- I must not let opportunity pass me by.
Young African woman, we have responsibilities we cannot forsake and “you can’t eat beauty. It doesn’t feed you… you can’t rely on how you look to sustain you. What does sustain us… what is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul.” Lupita Nyong’o
“Killing it” -I like that there are numerous instagram accounts that showcase young African girls “killing it”. I am glad to see that it’s more uplifting and less tearing down. We are unapologetically proud of our hips, skin, hair, booty, and I feel so much relief seeing young girls like my sister embracing their curves. Although we are killing it with our faces and bodies, may we not get too lost in the outside appearances that we forget that our hearts and minds are beautiful too.
